Dungeons & Dragons Backstory: Caelynn Amakiir

After a year long hiatus, my gaming group is finally resuming weekly D&D sessions.  We are running the adventure Hoard of the Dragon Queen.  Here's the synopsis of the adventure:

In an audacious bid for power, the Cult of the Dragon, along with its dragon allies and the Red Wizards of Thay, seek to bring Tiamat from her prison in the Nine Hells to Faerûn. To this end, they are sweeping from town to town, laying waste to all those who oppose them and gathering a hoard of riches for their dread queen. The threat of annihilation has become so dire that groups as disparate as the Harpers and Zhentarim are banding together in the fight against the cult. Never before has the need for heroes been so desperate.

We are two sessions into the adventure.  Unfortunately, our dear adventures suffered from a party wipe.  Okay, not quite.  Our cleric was left in unconscious in the forest.  When he came to, he found the rest of his comrades dead.

Here is the backstory to my new character, an elf ranger named Caelynn Amakiir:

I am Caelynn Amakiir, younger sister to Thia Amakiir. We are wood elves. Our people are ancient dating back to the age of the black dragon, Thauglorimorgorus. Thauglor. Black Doom. The King of the Forest Country.

Thauglor was in charge of all other dragons in an area that was at war with the elves who wanted control of the Forest Country, a land that later became Cormyr. Our people were a small group of elves that disagreed with the battle because the dragons were there first. They began wandering the dangerous lands looking for a place to call their own. This earned them the favor of Fenmarel Mestarine (of the Seldarine, the elven pantheon).

He showed them the location of a black dragon mask, an artifact that would help them leave the lands to safety. With the power of the mask, our people were able to avoid conflict with Thauglor and made a new home in the Kryptgarden forest. We worshiped Fenmarel for generations, never allowing our tribe to grow too large. When our tribe grew too large, a fraction of our people, deemed worthy enough through trails and tests to not reveal secrets, were given the honor of Release. This ritual would release them of their duty to protect the mask and would send them into Faerun to carve out a new life.

Thia and I patrolled the forest for many years. However, in the age of peace we grew careless. A few weeks ago, we were ambushed by a large group humanoids. I was gravely injured in the attack. When I came to, I learned the black dragon mask was stolen. My sister, Thia, picked up a few leads that the individuals who attack us were members of the Cult of the Dragon. While I recovered, she left for the town of Greenest.

Once I was well enough to walk on my own two feet I left for Greenest. Thia had about a two day head start on her travels. I fear something terrible has happened to her. I am just outside the town of Greenest and things look bad...

I plan on posting updates with our adventure thus far.  Stay tuned!
